After news yesterday of Shane Mosely vs Anthony Mundine being called off, another fight has just followed suit. Carlos Molina vs Victor Ortiz has been scrapped from the Adrien Broner vs Marcos Maidana Pay-Per-View undercard.
Carlos Molina looked to make his 1st title defense against the former boxing star Victor Ortiz. Both the Ortiz team and Molina team agreed to the fight and wanted it to go through. Many fans were also looking forward to this fight as Victor Ortiz looked to make his first appearance at junior middleweight.
The problem that halted the proposed contest was Victor Ortiz losing in his last two performances and the 18-month layoff he has been on since re-cooperating from a broken jaw when getting upset by Josesito Lopez.
Since that fight Victor Ortiz has been in front of the Hollywood camera participating in dancing with the stars and has been casted in the Expendables 3 action movie.
With the two losses and the long layoff, Victor Ortiz is not eligible to contend for the IBF junior middleweight title. Victor Ortiz must fight a contender bout scheduled for 10 rounds in winning fashion in order to fight for a world title.
Carlos Molina will still must likely be able to find an opponent that night Dec. 14 at the MGM in Las Vegas, Nevada. Hopefully Victor Ortiz can be re-scheduled for the same night against another contender with a viable name. This card has a chance to be even more stacked depending if Carlos Molina can find the right names for the same date.
