Bernard Hopkins (53-6-2) is ready once again to defy the laws of father time. The living legend who was considered an aging vet ten years ago will take on Karo Murat (25-1-1) of Germany. Karo Murat is just a mere 29 years old, compared to Hopkins who is 48 years of age. Yes, Bernard Hopkins is old enough to be Murat’s dad.
Karo Murat of Germany was not the opponent that fans were hoping for. Many were wondering what Bernard’s next move would be. Would it be Andre Ward? Another rematch against Chad Dawson? Nathan Cleverly? These opponents above were already booked except Andre Ward, but he does his business at super middleweight. Rumor has it that Bernard Hopkins was quoted as not wanting to take the fight also.
With little time and after Bernard Hopkins had so much of it during his long legendary career, Bernard Hopkins was left to make a choice quickly. It’s not like he is getting younger.
The blemishes on Karo Murat’s record come from Nathan Cleverly, whom Murat lost due to TKO in September of 2010 in the 10th round. He also fought to a draw against Gabriel Campillo.
Bernard Hopkins will defend his IBF light heavyweight title, again adding to history as he continues to age and keep his oldest champ streak going. The fight against his opponent will take place July 27, 2013 in Brooklyn, New York at the Barclays Center.
