After the incredible rematch between Brandon Rios and Mike Alvarado on Saturday night, Top Rank’s Bob Arum spoke about the future of another boxer in his promotional stable, Manny Pacquiao. Although nothing about Pacquiao’s next fight is set in stone, Arum has given fans an idea of whats to come.
According to Arum, Pacman’s next fight will not take place until September. This is likely due to the brutal nature of the knockout Pacquiao sustained at the hands, more specifically the right hand, of Juan Manuel Marquez in December. At 34, Pacquiao must be careful with his body so the decision to wait nearly a year to fight again is a smart one, however disappointing it may be to fans. On the plus side, he was knocked out with one punch and not as the result of a long violent beating which it seems has a greater long term effect on a fighter.
Arum also announced the expected location of Pacquiao’s next fight and suprisingly it will not be in Las Vegas. Apparently, due to a hold that the MGM Grand already has in place in September for Floyd Mayweather’s follow up to his May 4th bout with Robert Guerrero, Arum is eying an international location. Singapore and Macau are the two possible spots where the fight will take place, now it just comes down to which hotel will house it.
Along with the timing and location Arum also spoke as to who the Filipino congressman will be taking on in his next bout. The focus will be on a fifth fight with Marquez but if that can not be done a rematch with Timothy Bradley is the only other possibility.
To sum it up, nothing is yet known for sure but Manny Pacquiao will likely be fighting in September against either Marquez or Bradley in either Macau or Singapore.
