Erik Morales has been banned from boxing for the next two years. The ban came after Erik Morales tested positive from the banned substance Clenbuterol. Morales tested positive multiple times for this substance. The test were dirty right before the rematch fight between Danny “Swift” Garcia and “El Terrible” Erik Morales, which took place October 20, 2012. The bout would go on and the aftermath resulted in Erik Morales losing the match due to one of the best knockouts of 2012 when Garcia delivered the horrific knockout in round 4 of that bout.
Erik Morales is one of Mexico’s most legendary boxers of all time, not only in Mexico, but the world. Morales is a four division title holder and is destined for boxing’s hall of fame.
Morales blamed the test result from beef that he had ate.
My personal thoughts is Erik Morales should hang up the gloves. He has already came back from retirement before when he came back to boxing in 2010. He called it quits in 2007 after being defeated by David Diaz, Manny Pacquiao twice, and before them Zahir Raheem. Four losses in a row. After his comeback in 2010 Morales would suffer loses twice to Danny Garcia and one time to Marcos Maidana.
Although performing very well in the first fight with Garcia and also with Maidana, Morales age is also playing a major factor. Erik Morales is 36 years old. A two year layoff after a ban would make for one heck of a up hill struggle to get back to where he once was. It is sad to end your career on such a sour note, but sometimes when it is time to go, it is just that. Time to go!
