In an exciting comeback win earlier today Roberto Santos (18-6-2, 10 KO’s) punched his way to an eighth round TKO over Dominik Britsch (28-1-1, 9 KO’s). Referee Daniel Van de Wiele stopped the fight just 45 seconds into the eighth making Santos the EU middleweight champ.
Britsch looked like he was out boxing Santos throughout the fight. By the sixth round the it was becoming less than exciting, Britsch was cruising to a decision. Suddenly, near the end of the seventh, Santos exploded on the young German landing some nice combinations then a big right hook to the jaw knocking Britsch’s mouth-piece to the mat. Santos followed with a couple hard left hooks to the body which scored him a late round knock down.
Britsch seemed to be saved by the bell and came out in the eighth looking hurt and from there it was all Santos. The Spaniard attacked his opponent mercilessly until the referee had to stop the fight early in the 8th; both because Britsch was taking a beating and a nasty cut above his left eye.
This fight was a rematch of a February bout between the two men which ended in a controversial draw. Santos has publicly stated since the fight the he thought he was robbed of a victory, the fight occurred in a notoriously tough place to get a decision,Germany, against a German fighter and he took his chance to prove it today.
This TKO comes as the first loss for the 24 year old Britsch who before the fight seemed to be rising through the middleweight division. Todays loss will certainly change that especially since the 30 year old Sanchez came into the fight with six losses on his record and not having won a bout for over a year. For Sanchez however it shows that he has great conditioning, power with both hands, and the ever important ability to know when to attack.
