Miguel Cotto has his opponent picked for December 1st in Madison Square Garden. His opponent will be against undefeated up and comer Austin “No Doubt” Trout. Trout has an undefeated record of 25 wins 14 by knockout and a goose egg in the loss column. Miguel Cotto will be Austin’s toughest opponent to date and a huge threat to his undefeated record. Trout of course hopes for an upset which will be huge for his career if he is to pull it off.

After facing one undefeated fighter Cotto is to move on to the next. After his loss in Las Vegas against the undefeated Mayweather Jr. Miguel wanted to headline his own bout in his favorite venue, Madison Square Garden. Miguel Cotto will be teaming up with Golden Boy Promotions for this event. Miguel Cotto will be self promoting the event under his own promotion label.

If Saul “Canelo” Alvarez wins and Cotto wins this event Oscar De La Hoya has been hinting at a Cotto vs. Alvarez match-up. Now with Cotto also teaming with Golden Boy this is starting to look like a reality. This reality will probably come true in 2013 of course. Another Golden Boy rumor was Canelo will also fight one more time after his September 15th date. That would mean Canelo to fight in December before the year is over. This fight has not been scheduled for Pay-Per-View yet and is still in talks with HBO and Showtime. Add Canelo to the undercard this can be a very exciting event and possible PPV card.

Now with December 1st officially going to be filled with a boxing superstar event there are many questions now arising. With Manny Pacquiao in limbo with dates and an opponent I can almost guarantee Manny will do business in December also, if he is to fight in the year 2012. Looks like another promoting grudge match is brewing for December 1st, much like September 15th. Top Rank PPV vs. Golden Boy card on HBO or Showtime. As a fan I am going to love this date as much as I am looking forward to September 15th. Especially if Pacquiao announces a December opponent soon. I have a feeling an opponent will be announced the week after Ward/Dawson which is the week before Chavez/Martinez.

I can write a book about this December 1st date. If you would like to read more about this matter, I actually covered it in my last article last week. My psychic powers in work? Or did I call Ms. Cleo. Here is the link to that article http://myboxing.com/2012/08/22/manny-pacquiao-and-miguel-cotto-to-fight-others/

This officially takes Cotto out of the Manny Pacquiao sweepstakes. Pacquiao now has two options available. Bradley or Marquez?
