According to several sources close to the situation, Canelo Alvarez has finally found an opponent for September 15th. His opponent will be none other than Josesito Lopez.

Lopez was last seen shocking the world by going up in weight to break Victor Ortiz’s jaw. His upset victory sent shock-waves throughout the sport and forced Canelo to search for another opponent since he already had an agreement in place to face Ortiz prior to his loss.

Details of the Alvarez-Lopez bout have not yet been revealed. Josesito is a natural at 140lbs while Canelo has been fighting at 154lbs. We would assume the fight will take place at a catch-weight, but who knows. Would anyone blame Lopez if he decided to cash out on his amazing win over Ortiz by agreeing to fight the Mexican superstar at light middleweight?

Showtime is already scheduled to air the card which will also feature Jhonny Gonzalez vs. Daniel Ponce De Leon and Seth Mitchell vs. Johnathon Banks.

Sadly, it looks like Golden Boy Promotions still plans for the fight to happen on September 15th which means boxing fans will have to choose between watching Canelo Alvarez vs. Josesito Lopez or Sergio Martinez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

That’s such a shame considering the majority of boxing fans would love to see both fights.
