Floyd Mayweather officially has his opponent set for May 5th. Unfortunately for fight fans, he won’t be facing Manny Pacquiao or the redheaded Mexican sensation Canelo Alvarez. Instead, Money Mayweather has decided to face a Pacman leftover by the name of Miguel Cotto.
The fight is set to take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and according to Mayweather, he plans to fight Cotto at a 154lbs unlike Pacquiao who demanded a catch-weight.
“Pacquiao fought him at a catch-weight. If I fight Cotto, I want him to be at a weight where he’s comfortable,” Mayweather had recently told BoxingScene.com.
A Mayweather vs. Cotto fight is definitely more intriguing than a Cotto vs. Pacquiao rematch and even though it will do less PPV numbers than a Mayweather vs. Canelo fight, I personally believe Cotto has a much better chance at upsetting Money May than Alvarez ever will. I expect Mayweather will win the fight easily, but kudos to him for not selecting a pushover opponent.
This likely means a Pacquiao vs. Timothy Bradley fight will be announced very shortly. Bradley is young, hungry and extremely talented. I actually give him an excellent chance of handing Pacquiao his first loss since 2005.
