The much anticipated rematch between Peterson and Khan has been cancelled due to a failed drug test. With less than two weeks to go, the news was officially announced on May 9th. Lamont Peterson tested positive for synthetic testosterone which is a banned substance. Peterson demanded the blood and urine test. This is the second positive test from Lamont Peterson. The first positive test was on April 12th, 2012. The most recent test came on May 3rd, 2012. The fight was to take place May 19th at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. This fight was to settle the score after the controversial split decision from December of 2011. Peterson won the fight, but many people thought it was because Lamont Peterson had the at home advantage. Amir Khan was also deducted points from excessive pushing in rounds 7 and also in the final round of that bout. This is a huge disappointment to the boxing world. Hopefully Khan will be provided a big named opponent soon. Golden Boy plans to have Khan fight in July either on the 7th or the 14th.
